Demands of the Heart - by Brita Addams

Our friend Brita Addams has returned to talk about her blog tour promoting her latest book "Demands of the Heart."
She's always entertaining, and her books are very well written and worth investing your hard earned money and time in. Or you could just enter the contest by leaving a comment right here on this blog post.  There's a T-shirt to be won also. Consider the grape juice stain my own special contribution.

Thank you so much, David, for having back at your place. You are always so generous to your fellow authors and I truly appreciate it.
I stopped by to talk a bit about the importance of alpha males in our romances. In my historical novels, I usually write with the hero in mind. I'm not sure how other writers do it, but if my story is het, I make sure the lady has a man who will protect her and be the "dreamboat" she always wanted.
If I'm writing a m/m story, both men are alpha males, and let the battles begin. LOL I love it when two men vie for position (no pun intended—I don't think J.)
I'll let other writers fashion the omegas, I'm all in for Alpha Males and Romance
I'm an alpha male kind of girl. In my romance reading, I love 'em tall, handsome, assertive, confident no matter what situation they are in, completely in charge of their world. They are a catch for any woman, or man, and the envy of their peers. Of course, they are always rich, something anyone wishing to catch one should consider. They dress well, own mansions, and only the finest transportation will do.
No situation is too complicated or beyond their capabilities. They make hearts throb whenever they enter a room. They dance impeccably, their manners are beyond reproach, and they know how to treat a lady or another gentleman.
They are the men all women want to sweep them away from their mundane lives and treat them to some fanciful dream life.
Alpha males dive into situations as no mere mortal would think of doing and always come out victorious. They are adored by everyone around them and are considered heroes, just by virtue of the fact that they are more stunning than anyone else in view. They're envied by their peers, always better than everyone else and that fact is accepted by those same peers, usually with a smile and a pat on the back.
Romance novels wouldn't be the same without the men who are bigger than life. They are necessary for the genre and the women who read the stories.
Sometimes though, an alpha male isn't as I've described. Sometimes they look like every day people who simply have an extraordinary way about them. They handle situations as they come and would lay their lives down for those they love, but then, so would any self-respecting alpha male, no?
In the beginning of my historical romance, Demands of the Heart, my hero, Richard Fanshaw, is a young man in the blush of first love. He's young, naïve, and hell-bent on making Victoria Bramshaw his bride. Nothing is impossible, one must only wish it and it is theirs.
However, even Richard can't change what happens. An enemy is in their midst and he's bent on destroying Richard the only way he can—through Victoria.
No amount of alpha maleness will repair the destruction that an envious man wreaks upon Richard and Victoria's lives. There is another solution, but it will take more than machismo.
Here's the blurb for Demands of the Heart:
In 1807, idealistic Richard Fanshaw and Victoria Bramhill are consumed with each other, their young love blooming amidst a series of carefree soirees and stolen moments.
But jealousy and greed turn what they have into something ugly and twisted. They're wrenched apart amid vile lies and deceit when Victoria's freedom is bought to pay her father's debts.
Six years later, Victoria is widowed and a cynical Richard has just returned to England after years in India.  Having been given the impression that Victoria's marriage was a happy one, a chance meeting renews Richard's anger over Victoria's betrayal and sets in motion a plan for revenge.
One must answer the demands of the heart.

  2. YES...I love Alpha Males, too. That doesn't mean I would necessarily want one in real life as they can be cocky and arrogant...but they make for a great crush!

  4. Hi Ellie,

I'm busy, but that makes my life so good. Word bored doesn't exist in my vocabulary. I used to tell my kids not to tell me they were bored, because I could always find something for them to do.

Catherine, alpha males make great reading for sure.

David, as always, thank you my friend, for hosting me today. You are so wonderful to your fellow authors. Hugs, my dear. My best to you always.

  5. There's nothing like a great book with an Alpha male that knows what he's about. I like confidence, but not arrogance, strong and supportive, loyal, caring, take charge and protective. Not to mention tall, dark and sexy.
    Thanks Brita.
